From ’30 Rock’ to Nyack

Here’s an interview with Alec. Looks like his decision to leave 30 Rock after next season is final:
“If the show goes on without me that would be great, if that’s what everybody wants to do,” Baldwin says. “I know that I won’t continue with the show after next year.”
“There’s other things I want to do,” he says. “I don’t want to talk about it until those things are more firm, but I certainly think that what I’ve been doing for the last few years, I’m going to be doing as little of that as possible.”
(…)
He laughs when asked if he would do a Broadway musical.  “I can’t sing,” he says. “But I would love to do a show on Broadway. I think I have a couple more plays I’d like to do before I completely move on in another direction. Whether they’ll be on Broadway, I don’t know. But singing is not one of them.”
(…)
“It’s funny how the closer I get toward moving away from it the more difficult that is, because I really do like it now more than ever. It will certainly be an extraordinarily difficult thing to stop doing.”

Saturday, March 19, Alec Baldwin will sit down for a conversation with Nyack’s Elliott Forrest.  He will talk about his life and career.

Alec Baldwin’s Capital One Ads

Here’s another Capital One ad with Alec Baldwin and a video clip with a making of and bloopers.

Behind The Scenes with Alec Baldwin on the Disney Photoshoot

Here’s a video and some images of Alec as he prepares for his close-up as the Spirit of the Magic Mirror. Disney Parks Blog tells us Alec had no costume and no set on which to stand. It was all about the face.
His photoshoot was done in New York City last December at the end of a long day for Alec, who went directly to the studio after wrapping on “30 Rock” for the day.
Instead of playing music on this shoot, the actual dialog and music from this scene in “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” was played – and Alec knew every single line the mirror spoke. He recited the entire scene while Annie was shooting him!
Alec was encouraged to show a wide range of emotion during the shoot, and these photos capture that range perfectly.

NDI Gala To Honor Alec Baldwin; Auction Shirts By Portman, AMERICAN IDIOT

NDI_Gala_To_Honor_Alec_Baldwin_Auctions_TShirts_By_Portman_AMERICAN_IDIOT_20010101 On Monday, April 4, 2011, National Dance Institute (NDI) a non-profit arts education organization that has transformed the lives of more than two million public school children since its founding by world-renowned dancer Jacques d'Amboise in 1976, will hold its annual gala. The event, a highlight of New York's spring social calendar, raises critical funds for the organization's free arts programs that reach 4,000 students in 30 public schools throughout New York City each week, in addition to 35,000 family and community members through special performances.

Honorees for the gala include: Alec Baldwin, for his commitment to the arts and culture of New York City; Cisco for its TelePresence technology through which NDI held the first-ever virtual dance rehearsal; Ron Moelis, co-founder and CEO of L+M Development Partners who helped develop the PS90 building which will house NDI's new permanent home; and Shirley Young, for her longstanding support of NDI's international cultural exchange program.

"We are thrilled to be honoring this group - they are leaders in the fields of the arts, technology, and business and are deeply committed to arts education for all children," said NDI Executive Director Kathy Landau. "We have an incredible roster of celebrities and artists who have come together to create one-of-a-kind StarChild T-shirts for this important cause, because they believe in the value of the arts in a child's life. As funding for such programs continues to be drastically reduced, their support and involvement means more than ever."

Gala attendees will have the opportunity to participate in an auction and bid on one-of-a-kind StarChild T-shirts designed for NDI by Natalie Portman, Cameron Diaz, the cast of Glee, Yoko Ono, Paul Rudd, Diane Von Furstenberg, Isaac Mizrahi, Paramore's Hayley Williams, Idina Menzel, current companies of American Idiot and Angels in America, Eat Pray Love author Elizabeth Gilbert, She's Come Undone author Wally Lamb, artists Faith Ringgold and Red Grooms, and some surprise celebrities to be unveiled that night.

The event will be emceed by Broadway's Terrence Mann and takes place at the Best Buy Theater in New York City. The Gala will feature performances by young dancers in NDI's advanced programs, and will be directed by Ellen Weinstein, NDI's Artistic Director.

NDI will be able to reach even more children beginning later this year. The organization will have a new permanent home and will establish the NDI Center for Learning and the Arts, located at the residential development PS90, a former public school, in Harlem. Through a collaboration with New York City's Department of Housing Preservation and Development, L+M Development Partners and the Urban Investment Group at Goldman Sachs, the PS90 building has been restored into residential condominiums and a community space that will house NDI's new home.

"I am thrilled to be honored by NDI and excited to see the organization expand its educational efforts even further through its new home in Harlem," said L+M co-founder and CEO Ron Moelis. "National Dance Institute will help return and revitalize what was a former schoolhouse once again into a place of learning, enriching the lives of children in New York and around the world."

In 2010, Cisco's TelePresence and the efforts of businesswoman Shirley Young helped NDI enhance its educational international cultural exchange programs, expanding the organization's reach to more children.

"I am delighted that NDI, having enriched the lives of so many American children over the past 30 years, is bringing its magic to children on the other side of the world. I am happy to be part of this endeavor," said Shirley Young.

Gala Honorary Chairs are Susan & Donald Newhouse, Madaleine Berley & Arnold S. Penner; Gala Chairs are Kathy & Joe Mele, Lauren B. Cramer & Demetrius Fexy; and Gala Vice-Chairs are Sara Devitt, Valerie T. & Charles Diker, Edith & Jonathan Fassberg, Alicia Glen & Daniel Rayner, Kerry & Ron Moelis, Anya Herz Shiva & Dr. Andrew Shiva, Helen Stambler Neuberger & Jim Neuberger, Rhana & Charles Tabouchirani.

Baldwin back for third season of TCM's ‘The Essentials" and his future as a screen actor

The discussion is about “Stage Door,” the 1937 dramedy starring both women (as well as Ginger Rogers). Moments earlier, talk between Baldwin and Osborne had focused on 1954’s “The Caine Mutiny” and Fred MacMurray’s commanding presence while sharing the screen with Humphrey Bogart.
It is not unexpected, though still impressive, that Osborne, a nationally renowned film expert and keystone of TCM, spouts trivia as effortlessly as one might recount a grocery list. But Baldwin’s top-of-mind movie knowledge is profound.
Granted, the film and TV star, as magnetic in person as he is on celluloid, is the first to admit that he prepares studiously for his stint as co-host of TCM’s “The Essentials” series, which launches its 11th season on Saturday with “Cool Hand Luke.”
On this day, a gray December Saturday, Baldwin has flown in from New York for an overnight stay and an afternoon of taping at TCM’s Turner Broadcasting headquarters in Midtown.
“I do a lot of research. Robert knows everything off the top of his head. He is fully immersed in [movies] over many decades. But I will go on many sites, IMDB in particular, to get the most basic information about the principles behind and in front of the camera,” Baldwin said. “The thing I’ve learned in the years I made films is how collaborative an effort it is. I have an even greater appreciation from [co-hosting ‘The Essentials’] of how difficult it is to make a good movie.”
This is the third year that Baldwin sits across from Osborne to discuss and dissect 30 classic films that will air weekly through early 2012.
Months before taping, both movie buffs compile a list of about 25 films they would like to include in the next round of “The Essentials.” Osborne whittles it down and presents Baldwin with the final proposals.
“I almost always agree with him,” Baldwin said, his laser-like eyes smiling.
Last season, Baldwin lobbied for two films that weren’t typical TCM fare -- “Serpico” and “Saturday Night Fever” --  which aired as special late-night programming.
This year’s Baldwin pick is “Kiss of the Spider Woman” (July 23), as well as more traditional choices “Splendor in the Grass” (April 9), “Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo” (May 28) and “City Lights” (July 2).
Osborne’s contributions include “Love Me Tonight” (March 12), “Bringing Up Baby” (June 18) and “All Quiet on the Western Front” (July 30).
While Baldwin adores movies -- watching them on DVD on his laptop while traveling is common -- he doesn’t consider himself a student of cinema.
“That takes time I don’t have,” said the Emmy-winning star of “30 Rock,” NBC's crackerjack sitcom. “Before the TV show, I had a lot of free time because movie-making is a slow process with a lot of downtime. TV is the opposite. We don’t have time to luxuriate in our rooms to read books and watch movies, so that time is now in binges.”
When he’s ready to indulge, Baldwin retreats to the screening room in his Long Island home. As a board member for the Hamptons International Film Festival, he helps program a summer documentary season, which requires intense viewings.
“I watch a lot of documentaries,” he said.
But lately, the critically esteemed star of “Prelude to a Kiss,” “The Hunt for Red October,” “Glengarry Glen Ross,” “The Cooler” and “It’s Complicated” is approaching his film future cautiously, even suggesting he will take a prolonged screen break after “30 Rock,” which is renewed through the 2012 season.
“There are still good films being made -- the best acting I saw [last year] was ‘Blue Valentine’ -- but they’re harder to find. They’re there in a haystack of other films that are formulaic or forgettable. I find that TCM is the source of probably half the films I watch,” Baldwin said. “I’ll probably take a year off to do some other things I’ve had offers to do, like radio shows. I still love doing theater. The funny thing is, doing ‘30 Rock’ was really a blessing because there weren’t a lot of great parts, smarter parts like this, for people my age.
"I never thought of myself as doing a TV series, but it’s been the best experience I’ve had. It was so fulfilling, everything else would be a downer after that.”
